About

The Accounting Equation is a small practice and although we are based in the beautiful Cornish town of Penzance, We work with many businesses up and down the country. We are passionate about any thing accountancy related and like to think we are not your normal accountant! All businesses operate in different ways, even if they are in the same trade or profession.

We like to think we celebrate our clients’ uniqueness and make sure that we communicate in a way which is friendly, informative and cuts out “accountant-speak”, ensuring clients are kept fully advised of their financial and tax position, without being overwhelmed. We are here to support your needs so that you can get on with running your business.

  • Laura Parfitt-Marr

Laura first came to The Accounting Equation for work experience. She then became an employee while completing her AAT qualifications. After 5 years Laura became a partner in 2018. Laura puts her hand to most things. She covers Charity accounts, year end accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. She also deals with any tax queries, payroll and a bit of bookkeeping! Of course she also covers everything which is involved in running the business with her business partner Emma.

When Laura is not working she can normally be found walking her two dogs in the woods or hanging out with her ducks! Laura and her husband enjoy walks on the beach or the countryside, and finding nice places to eat. A day of shopping is also a win!

    Emma Jones

Emma first joined The Accounting Equation for work experience, then as a trainee and completed her AAT qualifications in 2021. She went on to join Laura as a partner at the beginning of 2023. Emma can be found working on tax returns, accounts, payroll, bookkeeping and general tax queries. Plus the general day to day tasks of running the business!

When Emma's not in the office you'll usually find her out and about exploring the Cornish countryside with her dog and at the occasional concert dancing the night away!

    Louise Kinver

Louise completed her AAT qualifications in 2013 and focused on raising her sons Joseph & Rhys, alongside building and managing properties with her husband Adam. Louise joined The Accounting Equation in February 2022. She mainly works on payroll but her workload extends to VAT, bookkeeping and administration.

When not in the office, Louise has been busy being captain of the Penzance roller derby team for the past 4 years, and competes in 5 Nations with Cornwall Roller Derby. Her sporty nature extends to her boys. Louise loves spending time with her family at the beach or walking their cocker spaniel, Rosie.

    Nia Reid

Nia joined The Accounting Equation in June 2023 as one of our bookkeepers and covers a lot of the VAT returns within the business. Nia is currently training to be able to complete Self Assessment returns too! She has a degree in Accounting, Business Finance and Management from the University of York, and has worked as a bookkeeper since 2020.

When Nia isn't working she can be found singing with a choir, or out walking with her pets in the countryside. And she has just joined Roller derby with Louise!
